Some people believe gold stocks move before gold.
Part of the reason is many gold stocks are unhedged.
If fixed cost are $250 than with $260 gold, the profits are $10.
If gold moves to $270 (4-5%increase) than profit double. The first small
price increases in gold will dramatically increase the value of gold stocks.

I am not a gold bug but this could be the reason gold stocks
are moving big compared to gold.

According to Bob Johnson, XAU is mostly gold (66.8%), and copper (31.8%), with a little silver (1.4%).
