At 2400' elev.- Wind Power may be realistic. You probably get a nice steady breeze up there. Seriously, I don't think solar panels are economically feasible for electric power unless you are willing to drastically reduce consumption. Especially true (economically) if you plan on going to a fuel cell in a couple of yrs. At $8-10 per watt for panels, + system inverters, batteries and controls, etc. you'll pay a high price for that juice. I'd go with the diesel generator till you get the fuel cell.

The best use of solar power is water heating and/or space heating. A solar hot water htg. system should pay for itself in 7-8 years in most locations- even quicker in a sunny spot like Hawaii.
