Gas-Guzzling Gephardt Wants You to Conserve

Do as he says, not as he does: When House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt showed his face at a photo op to make his usual attack on President Bush's proactive energy policy and nag Americans about conservation, he got there "in a gas-guzzling SUV," the New York Post reports today.

Asked why his boss set a poor example Tuesday by tooling around in an enormous Chevrolet Suburban, Gephardt spokesman Eric Smith stammered, "We don't say anything about changing people's lifestyles."

But changing "lifestyles" is exactly what the Big Government types have been demanding. The anti-choice left has been whining about sport utility vehicles for years and insisting that conservation is the panacea. But the folks out in California have been getting a good taste of conservation lately and don't seem to like the flavor.

The White House noted that Gephardt's call for price controls and other schemes would "create greater energy problems."

Books, even at current new-book prices, are still the best entertainment value around. Wonder how the left-wing media would start playing the CA energy crisis if every Californian turned off their TV set for 3 months and started reading books?

It's interesting to me that the citizens of this board who think the "Democrat" way, yet continually spout they believe in bipartisanship, don't EVER think that an idea of the Bush administration has value....Most Dem's seem to reject the ideas/policies out of hand.
