Another voice I respect on SI believes advanced super conductive materials, many already in the pipeline, will spur an industrial revolution rivaling the steam driven revolution of the century before last. Within 10 years.

Re: superconductors and long distance transmission. I don't know. Are there high temperature superconductors developed to such a degree? Unlikely, I think. Would be front page news everywhere for a long time. We would have heard of it.

I read IEEE Spectrum magazine semi regularly. The only recent thing I think I remember was an article on using superconductors for surge suppression or something like that.
