ajtj, I am not a believer in any singular theory, max pain can be used in conjunction with other theories or for that matter other "non theoretical" approaches. It works more than 60% of the time with selected stocks that I have followed, that is not great, but it improves the odds. I thought that JNPR would be much more volatile around its own Max pain point today, but like most of my positions, the range is very narrow and has not given me an opportunity to trade it as I planned.
