Don't misunderstand me either, conservation has been and will continue to be a key component in the US energy program. Development of more efficient products (cars, heating systems, etc.) will also have an impact.

I myself used a whopping 750 kilowatts of my allotment of 1000 last month and received a $7.50 credit on my electric bill for being under.

Just doing my part to keep California's lights on.

No doubt, and that's great. But remember the politics of it. In 2002, the majority of those who sacrificed will want to GET the SOB who caused the problem: Gray Davis. They will also vote AGAINST anybody who even looks like they MIGHT pander to enviro-whackos. California must go through this ideological catharsis before they can re-emerge from the Third World.
