RE: "advocate, for the life of me I just can't understand why you persist on playing shorts with AMAT, the gorilla, when market sentiment wrt the sector has so obviously changed. heck, if you really want to short some techs I would look at NTAP."

Joseph, Fair question. First, AMAT is not the only stock I trade. It's simply a favorite of mine and the only one I have time to discuss here on SI. Second, I have followed AMAT for many years and have a fair understanding of the semi-equipment sector. Third, I want to reestablish a long position in AMAT and am trying to accumulate some short-term trading profits while I try to time a great entry point (which I've probably already missed). Fourth, I like AMAT's trading ranges (they work well with my 5-10% stop-loss limits). Fifth, AMAT isn't likely to burn me with some overnight news that causes the stock to drop 25%. I could probably give a few more reasons, but you get the idea. Besides, there's a great group of folks who post to this thread and I enjoy reading their comments.

(Joseph, BTW, perhaps a key reason why I continue to trade AMAT is because I've had some success in the past. If I were losing all the time, I would probably move on.)
