If BOE eliminated sales altogether OK but some of us have thought that this reduction from 25 to 20 tonnes a throw was to eke the auctions out longer as they were having such an effective role in producing physical when required and keeping the price of gold down.

The reduction in the BOE auctions has been announced and well known for months now. This is probably short covering on top of fears that the Middle East may spiral out of control. The hands off attitude to the Middle East of the Bush administration does not inspire much confidence around the world.
