Spending far more on pleasure than kind acts(both money and time), willing to ignore injustices in the US as long as it doesn't affect themselves, etc. Yes. Look at Germany during Hitler. What is the saying about tyranny...All it takes for a tyrant to rise is for good people to do nothing.(that's a horrible butchery of phrase but I think you get my point) Is apathy a crime, an injustice? What is the difference between New Yorkers bypassing a mugging in progress and not even calling 911 vs. US citizens ignoring hundreds of thousands of deaths in Sudan , Timor, etc. because our leaders say there is no "economic" incentive? I don't have answers for society. I don't believe it will ever evolve into something "good". Did you say it or did Steven?...the problem is people! People must change one by one, in the here and now, not through some imaginary evolutionary process. I see more acceptance and lowering of standards towards immoral acts these days than I do actual attempts to rectify or find solutions for disposing of the acts. I don't call that progress. Does a nazi death camp commandant who lives a life of luxury in S. America until he is 90 years old lead a better life than Father Damien who died of leprosy helping lepers on Molokai at a far younger age? Length of life is not the highest criteria to judge one's life by, IMO. neither is health. One of the kindest, most beautiful persons I have ever met was confined to a bed all her life because of a nerve disorder. She had neither health, education or hope in this world. She did have the most incredible relationship with Jesus that I have personally ever witnessed. To speak with her was to encounter an overpowering presence of the love of God. Can I prove it? No. Can it be analyzed? No. was it evolution? No. Was it real? yes. PK
