Assuming that every energy extraction results in the death of salmon etc.etc is a deeply flawed mental model IMO. Cheap abundant energy has greatly enhanced our quality of life, wealth, and saved many, many lives. Common sense, balanced answers are what is needed. Completely saying "no drilling" in a 19 million acre area is not a balanced approach. An environmental show will air on Fox Television Saturday and Sunday which describes how out of touch organizations such as the Sierra club have become.
