living will ?

escape death..?

suicide ?

<smile>

I see you didn't get my point at all....

If capitalism is good for humans, how can so much interference in personal freedom be good - surely the choice to avoid being a vegetable for the next 20 years cannot be compared to suicide... ???? ANd if cryogenics becomes the norm...and we find 'cure' for death....are you saying the state can and should force my body to be frozen so it can be revived someday...against my wishes..? Are you going to force people to take medication of a particular kind against their wishes ? In that case abortions should all be banned ! Where will you then draw the line ?

These are highly personal choice IMO. I didn't mean to highlight MYSELF here, I was just trying to put myself in the place of the person lying in the hospital...and what THEY might feel...so your analogy of personal will does not hold...a lot of people don't make wills....i don't have one...no one in my family has one as far as I know...but for the state t decide what should be done to their alive 'bodies'....even if their minds are dead, and there is no hope of revival.....well, I think it is too much for the loved one to bear....try putting yourself in the shoes of he person who is a vegetable, and try putting yourself in the shoes of the loved ones and see how you feel to be denied this freedom....

You and OMD are taking a very short view of the world. 50-100 years is nothing in the life of the world....What i am saying is that ALL these restrictions on personal freedom always resolve themselves in the favour of human liberty and choice.....always...go back in history and check it out and you'll understand what i was trying to emphasise...

Remember homosexuality was not 'allowed', was unethical ? Neither was 'witchcraft' ? Neither was 'pre marital sex' or 'children out of wedlock' ? Widows were not allowed to remarry in cerain parts of the world......! And now 'euthanasia' is not 'allowed'......! Want to bet what the future will have in store for us ????

It is easy to judge others, and to pass judgement on what everyone should be doing...but i have always held that right and wrong is relative, there is no absolute, and what seems wrong to me may be righ for some else....and I have always respected the right to make that choice in other...only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches...we can keep guessing and making assumptions....it will never be the same...

I would like to end the discussion here please....if i may ?
