Your second scenario seems more likely...but either way, this escalation could very easily get completely out of hand.... ""

It is already out of hand! The truth is that Neither Sharon nor Arafat control the events, the events control them!

I used to enjoy visiting Israel, I still do, but the feeling of being in the most secure place on earth is no-longer there! Who is at fault? Both side are responsible!

Israel allowed a small group of settlers and Zealots to dictate their way of life on five million Jews and make them pay the price! These zealots occupied lands that illegally! The State, for a handful of votes allowed them to expand these settlements, hoping to use them as bargaining chip

There are those who believe there is only one solution: Attack Syria in Baaka valley and Golan, re-occupy South of Lebnon, strike deep in Syria. Cripple both Governments and who evre supports them, and the heck with the public opinion! While at it occupy the Palestinians Autonomy, and get rid of Arafat! And then start to re-negotiate peace for land! Hariri and Asad respect the force! Not realistic? Maybe!

Or maybe it would be easier to close all the illegal settelments in the territories and let Arafat have his state and have peace. Not realistic either! Those who think one can negotiate with Arabs has never met one! There is no solution, too late, too late!
