Re: PLEASE, PLEASE DO COMMENT !!!! [about Dell and Athlon4]

Everything you posted made sense, but I think Dell would be losing money if it had to compete without the subsidized prices and extra engineering support given to it by Intel - and Dell knows it. Dell can sit by quietly while everyone squawks about what a big deal it would be if Dell started using any AMD parts, and hope for its present sweet deal to become even sweeter.

But I continue to expect that there will not be an Athlon notebook from Dell this year.

I'd love to be wrong, but I think I'll stand by my "when pigs fly" post.

:-)

Regards,

Dan

DRBES:

"PLEASE, PLEASE DO COMMENT !!!!"

Right on!!! "clean kill" products are a necessity in Dell's product lineup if Dell is to maintain the image in the eyes of the "corporate world" as a one-stop shop company as far as offering world leading price/performance consumer benefits on its products...Dell's image is necessarily tarnished from a corporate perspective if the Athlon 4 is a "clean kill" product and Dell chooses to avoid offering it...not to mention what are likely to be "clean kill" servers and worlstations derived from the palomino which, obviously, Dell has wind of!!!

Once again DRBES, right on!!!

Few considerations about DELL going AMD.

1-When DELL will give there OK to AMD it could make business recognition of AMD second provider of quality CPU. Since this could rise adoption of other tier1 OEM like Compaq and other for the business sector, the demand could far exceed the supply if you add DELL to those OEM.

2-AMD must be very careful in introducing new core. There is always a possibility for a recall on any new core and if ramping is too fast such a recall could kill AMD.

3-Up to now, AMD try to produce what they are sure to sell. The type of supply-contract from DELL might not suite to AMD way of playing safe and AMD should not give better deal to DELL than those given to other OEM.
