Yup, DSS is only part of the game, there's another part called MAC, you need to find out what does that mean.

WLAN was first introduced in 1980, companies such as Aironet/Telxon, Intermec, LXE, Norand, and Symbol began selling WLAN geared to the retail and manufacturing industries. In 1990, NCR (subsequently AT&T GIS and now Lucent) began selling a wireless LAN product targeted to the horizontal market. In the early 1990s, the most popular band was the 900 MHz band for WLAN equipment. Data rates of 100 Kbps to 450 Kbps were supported under the 900 MHz band.
