Article : Is AMD Shrinking Intel’s Margins?
e-insite.net

from the article :
"An Intel spokesman said last week that the company expects to meet its earnings of 11 cents per share on revenue of $6.59 billion"

Is this true ? I must have missed it. I am surprised, because Intel doesn't often talk about 'earnings' forecast (just revenue and margins).

"Intel also hopes to reach production on 300-millimeter wafers by the first half of 2001."

Is this true ? or is he off by 6 months ?

Maui.

Joe, Tualatin, 512 KB cache for a notebook computer, bigger cache than AMD can muster for ANY chip so far. Good for servers too, as is, Serverworks probably doing the chipsets. Tualatins, shipping now actually to OEMs. - TV

The five new Pentium IIIs will sport a 133MHz front side bus -- the data
pipeline that connects the chip to other PC components, such as memory -- and
are also expected to feature improvements including a larger 512KB Level 2
cache and a new version of Intel's SpeedStep notebook battery-saving
technology.

Re: Absolutely AWESOME Tualatin news....

The five Tualatin chips will run at clock speeds of 866MHz, 933MHz, 1GHz, 1.06GHz and 1.13GHz.....

After the launch of the Tualatin mobile chips, Intel plans ....desktop Pentium III chips are expected at speeds of 1.13GHz and 1.2GHz.

So the move from .18 Aluminum to .13 copper is taking mobile PIII from 1GHZ to 1.13GHZ.

25% max speed improvement from a move to the next process generation, just like the K6-III. Isn't much else to be said, since we all know what a market dominating winner the K6-III was.

yes, awesome indeed as you might gather form the following

Speed Step works very simply - it ratchets down the speed and voltage under DC power to conserve battery power.
It's simple and effective. And it works.
Any data to show that AMD PowerNow provides a better result? :-)

SpeedStep is in a helluva lot more notebooks than the 800 HSN bargains from AMD.

Toshiba choosing a TransMeta Crusoe chip for one minor, Japan-only notebook computer. While Toshiba also announced a major server introduction based on multiple Intel Pentium III - 1 GHz - CPUs
