The snow stays late some years. I have seen snow at 7000ft on July 4th. People can usually still ski on the upper lifts at Squaw Valley during Memorial Day weekend. Not sure about this year though cause the snowfall was less than the usual 40feet total accumulation.

The snow up there is amazing! I read the Donner Party diary during the winter when we had a condo at a ski hill at the 7000ft elevation level. That winter gave me a new appreciation as to what the Donner Party went through during that desolate winter so long ago.

There is plenty of green grasses in different areas. The Mono Lake area is quite beautiful. The scenery is quite different there. I think that the diverse types of natural structures are what makes the state so interesting to me. Where else in the US can you find a tree that was alive before the birth of Jesus? The Giant Sequoias and the Coastal Sequoias are among my favorite things.
