? How do you think Ashcroft would react if he found out that a subordinate was holding Wiccan prayer session before work daily?

Funny you should mention that. I guess it's been about two years now since DOJ sent agencies guidance on the use of Federal equipment and facilities by employee groups. The way mine handled it was to have employee groups go through a registration process after which they were authorized limited use of meeting rooms, email, etc. Very shortly thereafter, a Wiccan group that was practicing at a Texas Army post got a lot of publicity. The big boys were really shaking that "awkward" groups would apply and began seeing Wiccans behind every column. (This is the only part of my job that I miss since my retirement. Never a dull moment.)

you think Ashcroft would react if he found out that a subordinate was holding
Wiccan prayer session before work daily? Do you think he'd say "live and let live;
that person has as much right as I to bring religion to the workplace"?

Yep. I think that's exactly what he would say.

It has everything to
do with professionalism, respect for the work you're supposed to be doing, and respect co-workers whose beliefs differ
from yours.

Precisely. It has everything to do with everybody being professional enough to say as long as you do your job and let me do my job I don't care what you believe, what God you do or don't worship or how. If there are Muslims who get out their prayer rugs and pray to Mecca five times a day, a professional says that's cool, that's your thing, now that you've prayed let's get on with the job.

It's the nonprofessional who makes a big deal out of it and lets personal beliefs interfere with doing their job.
