"You're also ruling out the possibility of a handicapped employee meeting in his
office with one or two other handicapped employees to discuss ways to cope.
That's one of your protected groups. "

I don't see how I can put this any more plainly than I already have but I'll try.
Handicapped are the underdogs. It's different when the boss meets with the
underdogs.

Ah, but the discrimination statutes don't say that you can discriminate against the overdogs but not the underdogs. They say you can't discriminate on the basis of these characteristics. It wouldn't be okay for Ashcroft to hold a males-only staff meeting, and it wouldn't have been okay for Reno to hold a women-only staff meeting. It's not okay to have an ablebodied-only-invited meeting, and it's not okay to have a handicapped-olny meeting.

That's one of the problems with the affirmative action crowd today. They think you can classify discrimination and say that some discrimination is good and some is bad. That's exactly what MLK and all those in the civil rights movement of the 60s rejected. Colorblind is colorblind, sex neutral is sex neutral. Discrimination is discrimination.

Are you old enough to remember the saying "there is no way to peace, peace is the way"?

It's the same with equality. There is no way to equality; equality IS the way. A government which demands equality in all its activities will be a government of equality. A government which institutionalizes discrimination is a government which promotes inequality and discrimination. And then there is and never can be equality.
