Thanks a lot SbH,

...Not that I understand more than 43% of it.<g>

But this bit:
The 3D-transform only requires (X,Y,Z) and wants to ignore the rest, but can't because of memory granularity. To sumamrize, lots of cycles were spent on trying to convince people to build their vertices as a structure of arrays (SOA) to avoid this problem. Don't know if gamers eventually went for that idea. It was messy to implement and not everyone was impressed with this.

...sounds like the "Dumbing Down" of a great computational device to me. Since no one is going to encode an infinite variety of these "structure arrays" the end user would be limited to whatever options the sftw includes. Which I surmise is why most "virtual reality" programming looks like "a very badly simulated" Bizarro world.

No doubt there is some techno-economic "reason" for INTC to try to rush us down this path. But I will definitely be taking the "Road Less Traveled" by Andy "Granittelli" Grove.<Ho Ha 8->

I am sure this is an oversimplification, of Moronic proportions, but it seems to me that a company that makes CPU's should concentrate on making the product faster, cooler and smaller. Why you would consider moving towards a CPU that functions like an over grown graphics engine is beyond me.

...Actually, this is all beyond me. But I needed to say something bad about INTC today and this was my best opportunity.<Ha 8->
