My boy?? Well ... that guy may be able to rise to the occasion when needed, that's all I've said about him.
I don't think he is a great intellect and I don't think that is needed for the job. I think BC and HC are both smarter, but smarter in an evil sort of way, which I don't need <ng>

Crashes are rare. Agreed.

Can one gain nothing by studying them? Are there no similar principles or circumstances involved in each?

Is it impossible to understand the conditions that led to them because the are so rare? Are there no similarities to speak of that are worthwhile to look at in similar bouts in other countries?

I have never predicted a 1930's style meltdown -- I do believe we are entering a recession which will dwarf what has happened in my lifetime so far. Everything is preliminary of course, but we've had a few individual items go "off the scale," as it were, already (I'll refrain from talking about lengevity of the boom, credit expansion and the like, for now) -- the nazdaq decline was an extremely rapid and deep decline by almost any measure, the recent increase in unemployment has likewise been quite rapid (I know it hasn't reached a huge amount %-wise, yet), we've had a Fed move to slash rates in the quickest fashion I can remember (maybe they are just out to get into the record books, I don't know) -- these are things that should keep you from jumping to conclusions concerning how bad it is (or rather isn't) going to get in the next year or two, IMO.

Jaded? Who is jaded?
