Re: You tell 'em - especially about...

This guy claims he overheard something while eavesdropping - something the is contradicted by every test run by every magazine and website on the planet.

An inadequate power supply will make any system unstable. Athlons use more power than other processors, and when used in a system with an inadequate PS, like any other processor, their stability will suffer.

Contrast this with the numerous recent Intel CPUs and chipsets that corrupted data or crashed due to inherent design and manufacturing flaws, rather than incorrect assembly of the system (using the wrong power supply).

Here's something I have personal experience with and can vouch for. We have seen a 200% failure rate in i820 systems. That's right, 200%.

What it means is that we bought one system for evaluation from gateway (and never bought another one, since the performance was mediocre compared to other systems, the price higher and reliability non-existent). The original motherboard failed shortly after the system was delivered, a replacement was sent, and that failed about 6 months later. The poor guy stuck with this piece of junk nobody else wants is now waiting to see if the failure rate goes up to 300%.

True story.
