is it any different to "LIST PRICE" for John Doe off the street, as opposed to "discounted price" for "frequent customer Jane Doe" ?

Ya spend more with 1 company, you're entitled to "volume purchase discounts".

Like I said before - you always have the choice to spend your money with a different company.

cheers, kumar

This was supposedly done in order to allow "directed" advertising to customers. Example - you would be mailed a flyer targeting only the products you regularly purchased, like cereal, etc.~

The issue becomes more interesting when you consider a lg. market, which has a pharmacy, branch bank ATM, book store, etc. Now, a database can be maintained that includes a good part of one's lifestyle, illnesses, family size, etc.

One way to beat it is to ask the cashier if they have a "store" card - because you don't have yours with you. I frequently do this at a "Super Stop & Shop." Partly because I resent the info. gathering, mostly because I forget the silly thing~
