Implying U.S. backing, he also said, "The Americans understand that we can't take this anymore." And by already having put the kabosh on additional weapons sales to Israel, Bush really has little leverage to apply against preventing Sharon from further use. The most the US can do is say that they're putting any resumption of arms sales on the back burner... And Sharon and the Israelis understand that is merely a perpetuation of the status quo. As for the 11 Palestinian policemen, their deaths are regrettable, but to claim that weren't involved in the circle of violence, while ignoring the fact that most of those Israeli soldiers who have been targeted and killed have not be parties to violence against Palestinians. Unfortunately, WAR does not discriminate between the guilty and innocent nearly as well as the criminal justice system. Hawk
