EDS Expands Relationship With Akamai to Provide Next-Generation E-Business Web Hosting Services
EDS' Comprehensive Web Hosting Services to Include Akamai's EdgeSuite(SM) Service
EDS-Akamai Relationship Targets High-Growth Worldwide Market for Content Delivery
PLANO, Texas and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- EDS (NYSE: EDS - news) and Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM - news) today announced an agreement to offer Akamai's EdgeSuite service with EDS' world class hosting services.
The addition of EdgeSuite to EDS' comprehensive range of hosting services creates an optimal solution for enterprise customers looking to maximize site performance and reliability when delivering business-critical Web applications. Built upon Akamai's global edge network, EdgeSuite is the first suite of integrated services that allows clients to reap the benefits of content delivery across an entire Web site -- including static and dynamic content, embedded objects, streaming media, applications and HTML.
``Combining Akamai's EdgeSuite offering with EDS' world class web hosting services provides enhanced performance and greater return on clients' Web infrastructure investment,'' said Dennis Law, global service line vice president for Web Hosting at EDS. ``We're excited to add the benefits of Akamai's EdgeSuite as we continue to deliver services that offer the best possible Web performance on a global scale.''
Targeting a High-Growth Market
The worldwide content delivery services market is expected to grow to more than $2 billion by 2003, from $96.7 million in 2000 and $462.5 million in 2001, according to The HTRC Group.
Today's agreement targets this market and marks an expansion of a cross-selling relationship EDS and Akamai established in September 2000. Under the agreements, EDS became a reseller of Akamai's FreeFlow(SM) content delivery, FreeFlow(SM) Streaming media delivery and FirstPoint(SM) global traffic management services, and Akamai became a provider of EDS' Intelligent Storage Services.
Akamai's suite of services offer businesses the benefits of rapid, reliable content delivery, high-quality streaming media delivery, advanced global traffic management and other performance benefits.
``EDS' high-value hosting solutions along with Akamai's next-generation content delivery service provides superior performance and scalability for customers' mission-critical Internet applications,'' said Chris Turner, vice president, worldwide channel distribution, Akamai. ``Representing a natural next step in our relationship, Akamai and EDS continue to work closely to combine the strengths of our technologies to create value-added solutions for customers.''
