Yes, that is precisely the point I was trying to make.

If you are in favor of price controls now, you should also be
in favor of price controls at the other extreme.

It is a separate question about whether or not they should
exist at all for a particular industry.

I'm also pointing out that the Democrats (who are advocating
price controls now) weren't crying any tears for the energy
industry in 1998-1999. In fact, the Democrats are demagogues
who will publicly criticize an energy company for "reporting
profits up 500%", without also pointing out that the previous year's
earnings were artificially depressed. If your profits drop to near
*zero*, of course you will get a large *percentage* increase
when they snap back to a more normal level...
