I think you are zeroing in on what Dell is all about. Too much discussion of prices and prices wars confuses the issue.
The concept of providing computers to the PC disadvantaged, making them cheap enough even the smallest business afford, being in on the ground floor when third world nations need many more.
Starting with the simple precept, that everyone should be able to afford a computer, compares to Fords thinking that everyone should be able to own a car. He sold them as low as $495 when Dodge was getting $2500.
