~J: It's not just the drilling. Even if you consider horizontal, you'll need to have housing/roads/pipes to support the project.

"Nothing is going to stop progress" is a nice proverb, but doesn't mean it's true. Many people are trying to enforce governance issues on companies --nice work with snail-moving results. And this is good progress and in the right direction, something the Bush administration (with its energy plan) is not moving towards.

I know the story about Gore (from the Wall Street Journal, during pre-election), but what happened to him can't be compared to what is going on now with this new administration.

As to nuclear energy, although very clean, waste has to be deposited for many years. This can cost future generations badly if something wrong happens to these chemicals over those many years. An extremely long-term liability for a short-term problem.

Good day,
Marty
