Principles: It could be that in some cases persons who make a show of their religion are doing so to point out that at the foundation of the religion is principle. The principle(s) on which their religion is founded then can be used as a sort of measuring stick for their character. In fact, this is done by their friends and foe alike. Does Ashcroft measure up? Well, I'm pretty sure we can guess what the measure will be. His enemies will find cause to label him a hypocrite and his friends will find cause to label him exemplary.
