I'm not so sure I would call it "burning" hydrogen, but isn't that what they are talking about using platinum and silver-zinc for in fuel cells? I haven't heard mention of using gold.

Until zero-emission cars are widespread (several years away), catalytic convertors are essential to meeting the ever increasing environmental regulations. So far the only way that can be done is with a combination of platinum, palladium, & rhodium, all which are more than twice as expensive as gold.

There may be some sort of opportunity there.
