Excellent point DMA, and I would mostly agree. However, I believe what we're seeing as it relates to talk radio is a "disruptive technology" on the march. Disruptive technologies seem innocuous at first, they are usually lower tech methods of producing a service or product. One, which the wealthy leaders of the industry easily pass up because they see no real threat until it's too late.

CBS, NBC, CNN, and every other major communications network could have launched political talk radio programs when the success of personalities like Rush Limbaugh became apparent. But they didn't, because, they thought it was just some fringe group of people which wouldn't amount to a hill-of-beans.

Today, talk radio and the internet are now the major places where real political discussions are taking place. And Demolibs are still discounting the medium as irrelevant. Due to their popularity, they have now become real players involved in the political process and the mainstream media hasn't truly realized it yet. Because, they are still searching for a way to use "sustaining technologies" to improve a product which is in consumer acceptance decay.

Bill O'reilly is one of the first to bridge this disruptive gap and bring a similar forum to television broadcasting. The pressure will now continue to grow on other televisions executives to meet this new challenge until dozens of O'Reilly's become active players.

It's going to be a fascinating next four years!

The Demolibs better read the book "Innovators Dilemma" :)
