Jim, Well, they can fix it by disabling this feature in the BIOS, Burn, Baby, burn as they say.

Jim:

":"the tests by Bert McComas showed that the only way to get the P4 out of half speed mode was to reboot. Considering that this has been shown to
happen running commercially available engineering applications like Matlab, and considering that 3/4 of the workstations used by engineers are
rebooted only once or twice a week, the P4 is unsuitable for engineers until this problem is fixed"

It might explain the flurry of "server advertisements" witnessed yesterday...Is INTC redirecting their advertising dollar away from the P4 flubber until, if ever, it is assured it can keep its P4 flubber from sinking further into the tarpit!!! AMD has now not only successfully challenged but has clearly assumed the price/performance leadership across bottom, middle and top ends in both the consumer and mobile segments and are now poised to do same in server and workstation segments...Now that consumer and mobile turf is no longer unprotected, INTC looks to be making a last ditch effort at protecting what has hitherto been uncontested terrain in the server and workstation segments...Too little too late???
