Governor Gray-Out: "I botched it"

The governor of California, "Gray-Out" Davis attacked President
Bush's energy plan, accusing the administration of turning a
blind eye to the bleeding and hemorrhaging that exists in the
state of California. He said that Bush's pledge to speed up power
plant permits and conserve energy at federal buildings offers no
short-term relief from California's rolling blackouts and soaring
electricity bills.

This means that Governor Gray-Out, whether he knows it or not,
admitted that he and his party cannot deal with the crisis in
California. "Please, you've got to help us out," he's been
begging for weeks. But now, when Bush says, "Hey, you're on your
own. There are no quick fixes." Gray-out has admitted basically,
"I botched it. I've got no hope of fixing this mess I made by
myself."

This stuff boggles my mind, and as such, I asked Dick Cheney
about these accusations by Gray Davis when I interviewed the vice
president early in Friday's program. There are increasing calls
for what is being called fast action or a "quick fix," and Cheney
has been honest with the American people, telling them that an
instant solution is simply impossible.

Cheney told me, "The fact of the matter is, Gray Davis knew in
California - everybody else did, too - that they had a major
problem over a year ago, and they went all through last summer
with blackouts. He stalled and delayed and refused to take action
because he didn't want to be honest with the people and tell them
that they had to end that goofy regulatory scheme they put in
place out there so he delayed, delayed, delayed. ... California
is a great state, but unfortunately the people out there have
been paying a price now for the fact that their political leaders
haven't been willing to be honest with them, deal straight with
them or address these substantive issues."

Gray-Out Davis caused this problem by watching the population of
his state nearly double yet doing nothing to supply more power.
Conservation - the only solution his political supporters allow,
closing their minds to any attempt to increase supply - simply
won't work. California is the #1 state in conservation, already.
You need more supply out there!

Again, my friends, Gray-Out Davis was forced to admit he has no
solution to this problem, and he's been reduced to casting about
to blame anyone he can. He's throwing every conspiracy theory he
can out there, but none of them are sticking. You let this crisis
happen, governor. Why don't you follow the example of our
esteemed vice president and give the voters the honest truth?
