Economic Hope Floats

Stocks are up and down this morning as traders engage in some profit taking after five sessions of rallying. Both the DJIA and Nasdaq are above levels that have been psychologicial ceilings for some time, and analysts are now talking about resilience in the market. There is some fear that part of yesterday's strength may have been short covering, since there was really no news that could have sparked he tech rally, but traders seem to feel that good things are on the horizon for the economy, and the Fed rate cuts will have things turned around by the second half of the year. Recent successful IPO's are another sign that the bulls are back in town, and investors are encouraged by that as well. Trading volume is high, a sign that the bulls are indeed back in town. Traders will probably be looking to economic reports for ideas about what's to come in the second half of the year more than short term numbers.
