The table above shows that this is the 8th time the Fed has made 5 consecutive cuts. Only in the deflationary Thirties did such action fail to stabilize and boost the economy and stock market.

this is only the 2nd time the Dow has lost ground between the 1st and the 5th discount rate cut, (lower half of table). The other exception was 1982... when that 5th cut turned out to be magical - propelling the Dow for a 42.5% gain in 6 months. While that's an unlikely scenario today, this action proves Greenspan is willing to pull out all stops to stabilize the economy and stock market.
