Pierre - Interesting. My guess is that you won't actually have to buy a modem card as such but many devices are going to have them built in. SPs will get in to the equation by offering free notebooks for a service contract or free PDAs with the same end.

Telematics will involve devices that have to be mobile like autombiles having to have modems since there won't always be convenient blue tooth nodes available.

As far as plain vanilla handsets are concerned I expect to see such things merging with PDAs and eventually becoming phazed out as video phones on a PDA size screen should prove a big seller.

Further I think the idea of using blue tooth to conect your notebook is interesting and we will have to see how easy it will be to run voice calls and to be online at hdr contemporaneously.

Best regards,

L

why would I buy a cdma 2000 modem for my laptop or pda and pay what I assume will be an attendant account charge for each modem's unique phone number when with Bluetooth I can simply purchase a Bluetooth enabled pda or laptop and have it rely on my existing cell phone (Bluetooth enabled, right?) to deliver high speed data.

If you don't have a separate modem and a unique phone number, you won't be able to receive calls on your cell phone while online. Some might consider this a minor inconvenience, however, I believe this would not be acceptable to most people as we have become accustomed to being available through our mobile phone at any time.
