TrueSAN Networks to Embed QLogic End-to-End SAN Technology in Paladin Network Storage Systems
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2001--TrueSAN Networks, Inc., an emerging leader in unified information management and a supplier of network storage systems and software, today announced a strategic agreement with QLogic Corporation (Nasdaq:QLGC) to embed the QLogic SANbox(TM) 8 and 16 port Fibre Channel switches and the SANblade(TM) 2200 Series host bus adapter (HBA) technologies in TrueSAN's Paladin(TM) C-series. The Paladin C-series is a revolutionary new line of network storage systems and software that bring massive storage scalability, unified storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) functionality, and powerful management tools to enterprise storage customers.
A New Paradigm in Network Storage Scalability and Modularity
Unlike traditional storage architectures with monolithic bus-based storage controllers that restrict performance and capacity, the Paladin C-series features MetaFabric(TM), a unique architecture that embeds a switching fabric at its core. TrueSAN leverages the internal switching design of MetaFabric(TM) and the distributed virtualization technology of its FusionOS(TM) software to incrementally and non-disruptively scale capacity and bandwidth on demand from hundreds of gigabytes to hundreds of terabytes.
"TrueSAN Networks offers a truly unique solution with their Paladin C-series network storage systems, which scale in 'storewidth' with MetaFabric," said Dan Tanner, Senior Analyst, Aberdeen Group.
API-level Integration to Strengthen Storage Management and Security TrueSAN has also collaborated with QLogic by writing directly to the application programming interface (API) of the QLogic SANBox switch, enabling tighter integration with TrueSAN's Alchemy(TM) Storage Management Software. As a result, Alchemy provides the IT administrator with a robust and intuitive set of event monitoring and status alerts, in addition to improved visualization of devices within the SAN. Alchemy is an essential tool for IT administrators focused on improving quality of service (QoS) levels and empowers them to easily visualize, configure, and control their storage infrastructure.
Another benefit of TrueSAN's API integration with QLogic's fibre channel switches is the ability to deliver a true, shared storage environment by enforcing more robust authentication controls and rogue server protection within the SAN. A rogue server is a host system that is not authorized to access storage devices within the SAN. Alchemy uses host agent technology and switch API integration to detect rogue servers and block unauthorized host access via the switch, ideal for service providers and enterprise environments looking to deliver secure storage access.
"QLogic SANbox switches and SANblade HBAs provide TrueSAN the essential foundation for scalable, secure, and high-performance SANs, benefiting customers who are looking for storage consolidation, server clustering, enterprise backup or any application requiring maximum reliability, availability and performance," said Mark Edwards, senior vice president, QLogic Corporation.
What's in Store for the Future?
In the coming months, TrueSAN will integrate QLogic's SANbox 64 and 128 port director-class switches, as well as SANbox2(TM) 2Gbps switches and SANblade 2Gbps HBAs in its Paladin network storage systems.
"We are pleased to join forces with QLogic in order to introduce a timely solution to the market and will continue to evaluate best-of-breed SAN technologies moving forward. OEMing QLogic's hardware technology allows TrueSAN to offer customers a comprehensive network storage solution, while at the same time enabling us to focus our valuable resources on the development of storage management software," said Paul von Stamwitz, Vice President of Engineering, TrueSAN Networks.
