Nikon Bundles

SNDK will never be the company we want it to be by selling
8 MB CompactFlash bundled cards with new cameras. Lexar has
already stated publicly that this is not a great profit center
for them. Eli basically stated during the last c.c. that SNDK
doesn't mind selling these low margin items because they tend
to sell in higher volume. But I don't think 512 Mbit chip
density was designed to satiate the demand for 8 MB OEM
card bundles.

Nikon selected Lexar for the higher end 995 and I believe that
ships with a 16 MB card. Reimer stated that write speeds
will become important with digital video applications (which
many digital cameras now sport). He stated that Kodak's new
hybrid camera/video cam/MP3 player defaults to a lower frame
rate
when slower CF cards are inserted. Thus, Lexar may
win out on more OEM bundles for these applications. That is
not necessarily a good or a bad thing for us.
