I watched it too, Karen; I was also somewhat disappointed. But what can be done in a two hour program, when the topic covers thousands of years, and myriad people all over the planet. Some North/South American references would have been appreciated.

When I was watching the people circle their God center, I had a peculiar thought (not unusual for me). I wondered what would happen if people did that everyday during their waking hours, with another group moving through the throng with food and drink. How many years would it take to lose all individual identity and become like bees--our lives devoted to the strange form at our center, and lived for the sole purpose of this mysterious symbol?

A mob is very much like bees, devoted to a group purpose. People attempting to be individuals in a mob can easily be stung to death.

We have probably all felt the self transcended by an overwhelming feeling of "WE" at some time in our lives. Is this compelling religious urge, felt by some people--the desire to be a bee? Do we all search to return to the equivalent of the hive?

Ah, just having some fun while I enjoy my hazlenut coffee! A little more nut than I thought ;)

If you would like to read on this subject, I recommend "The Two Babylons". It was out of print but has been reprinted.
