Scumbria,

after being wrong about everything so far.

Not everything. I got it right when I called the DDR launch a Failure a couple months ago (which some people disagreed with). <G>

Dave

<edit: speaking of getting things wrong, there's another Carl post from last Fall that said that it would be a no-brainer that Micron and IBM would bring out DDR systems.

I checked the IBM site last night, and their desktop class systems (NetVista pc.ibm.com ) were divided into 9 main models. One was Athlon/SDRAM based -- the rest were Intel based. Of the 9 main classes, some of the groups were subdivided, which meant that there were even more than 9 models to chose from. Unfortunately, the Athlon group wasn't -- there was only one model to pick. Of the remaining 8 groups, 2 were P4 (obviously with RDRAM). So no DDR, and 2 groups RDRAM based at IBM.

Their Intellistation workstation group also had only Intel.

Carl also recently mentioned that Compaq had dropped the RDRAM desktop systems from their line-up. The good news is they're back. Of their Presario (Home) 7000 line, they offer 3 retail models (all Athlon/SDRAM based), or you can configure a system for direct order and they offer an equivalent number of AMD and Intel processors (4 each) with the Athlon systems paired with DDR and the Intel PIII systems pared with SDRAM. In the Deskpro (Office) world, it's all PIIIs and P4s -- no Athlon or DDR to be found.

Just wanted to keep you updated.
