But this is largely because no one on wall street seems capable of anything besides connect-the-previous-2-data-points-and-linearly-extrapolate-the-future. They expect comapnies to 'manage' their results, which isn't always possible. Those forward P/Es will be magically 'revised upwards' as things turn around, until they overshoot, using the aforementioned technique, and the cycle repeats.
