Last night I was transferring to my new computer some files from my backup disks, miscellaneous stuff I have meticulously organized for instant reference by category, ie folders titled Clutter 1, Clutter 2 and Clutter 3 (at least they're in chronological order from when I saved the stuff), when I came to a dictionary link I wanted to put on my desktop. When I clicked to save it there, a lengthy download process ensued, and I had the thought that all I wanted was a URL, not a whole bunch of dictionaries and thesauri on my hard drive. So I clicked to abort the process. To my surprise, I found that I had this mammoth icon, or part of it, some big wings, in the upper right hand corner of my monitor screen, but it was unclickable and unmovable. I couldn't even drag the darn thing over to where i could look at it, and it wouldn't open. I tried everything I could think of (an untimeconsuming operation) and then thought, well, maybe if I reboot.... So I rebooted, and got this message from Windows about clicking the spacebar to fix things. I did that for a reason inaccessible to me at this moment, and was offered the amazing option of making my computer go back in time to where it was a while ago. Unthinkingly, I chose an hour. My computer reverted to its pre-dictionary stage, and that pesky icon was gone. But also gone were the files i'd transferred in the last hour from the zip to my hard drive. Oops. The hour had been partly consumed by phone calls and nothing of vital importance was lost, but I guess I did learn something from it: When transferring saved files, Copy to, don't Send to, just in case....
