Just said on the CNBC news that he is going to be an independent but work with the Democrats. BTW, I agree with you that if he had integrity, he would step down and allow a new election. The people voted in a Republican and that's what they should get.

I think that if you stand for a party, assuming they don't radically change direction after you've been elected you should complete your term with them

Over the period of time that he's been in office, there's been an continuing shake-out between the parties. For most of my life, you couldn't get a clue of what a politician stood for by learning his party affiliation. The Reps and Dems were like competing social clubs. They had bits of ideology here and there to distinguish them but there was no consistency.

There's been a fair amount of party shifting of late, enough that this one wouldn't be getting so much attention but for the tie in the Senate. If there was ever an ethical issue, it seems to have been resolved with a big yawn. Personally, I'm glad to see the parties sorting themselves out in terms of ideology, however clumsily they do it.
