Who's John Galt?

Sure, John Galt is a fictional character who is one of the main characters in Ayn Rand's Atlas shrugged. If I remember correctly, he invented a cheap/small/non-polluting energy device. A holy Grail.

He withheld it from the market, though, because he saw the socialist policies of the country as bleeding the productive while rewarding the unproductive. (Hence, Atlas Shrugged is the productive people deciding not to hold up the world anymore).

Anyway, when he convinced enough of the producers (capatilists) to retire to his private city, the entire economy collapsed as nobody was holding it up (kind of like Russia). Very interesting book, but sort of simplistic and too long. I recommend it.
