I'd think a pretty viable biz model for internal wireless modems could flow from the PC makers(like Dell, with $8B in cash) as follows:

Dell does a volume deal for 1x/1xev modems and gets the price in the $100's, maybe even below $100. The modem is included as standard equip. on notebooks, maybe above a certain retail price or maybe all of them period. An icon need only be double-clicked to establish connectivity with Dell's preferred vendor, say Sprint PCS. Activated accounts result in a sub acquisition payment from PCS to Dell of $xxx. I think cell subs are running from $230(LWIN) to in the $400's, so let's say $200.

If half of them sign up, Dell is in the black on the modem alone, not including additional notebook sales or any ongoing payments from PCS. PCS is happy as hell. The customer got a free modem for establishing connectivity they needed anyway.

And a royalty and a chip for you know who.

When can we start.
