You don't have a clue do you. WWII was single largest expediture the US government was ever part of.

The debt quintupled in 5 years during the War. It took another 35 years to quintuple again. If you count the whole post- War period, from 1940 to the fall of the Soviet Union, from the Marshall Plan through NATO to the end of the Cold War, the overwhelming majority of debt was accumulated in the context of defeating the Axis, repairing the damage, and holding back the Communists.
