Well now who did it then, God? I didn't think a good liberal would even acknowledge him. So, I play along. Did the poor do it? Nope. So who did it?

We are born in a set of varying circumstances. It is our duty to work hard and honorably within those circumstances whatever they are. We have no innate duty to give anything to anyone else. We may do it of charity if we wish. But we have no obligation to any poor person at all. And no one has any right to make designs on the resources of anyone else.

<< Anyone who believes that their accomplishments... in life are their own doing, is deluding themselves. >>

Oh really? Whose doing is it then?

Scumbria, anyone who believes their accomplishments are someone else's doing is probably right. But that doesn't mean that most people can't do well for themselves. You have plainly stated something that allows me to understand your position better. Must be a strange world to have no control over your future or your success.

MAJOR difference in the two parties. Dems feel people are helpless to succeed on their own, and Repubs KNOW that anyone CAN succeed on their own. Thanks for stating that so well.

If anyone believes that their accomplishments are only the result of their own doing then they should exchange places with a child who lives in the ghetto, has a mother that is a drug addict and a father who is a dead beat, has to risk his life to get to school and risks his life getting to the library to get online.

And that's just the surface. Of course most here would think that kids B isn't as good as a child who got a B+ in a prep school with two parents who support him all the way!

This comment demonstrates how deeply you live in a deterministic paradigm.

You are the sum total of what you have done, are doing, and will do. When you view yourself as a helpless victim, you become one. That's the main reason Democrats are so dangerous. They push the notion that we are all simply victims of outside circumstances and can do little to change our life.

Further, they attempt to put everyone into groups classified by their social/economic past. And they persuade far too many people that we (the government) ordain your achievement level. We decide how much you should earn before we call you (greedy) and take it form you. So, they punish achievement, by stripping hard working Americans of their life energy (in higher and higher taxes), because, achieving on your own is tantamount to an admission that we (the government) are not in control of your success.

Every member of society starts with certain benefits and struggles to overcome. As a society we can only create the environment around which fullfillment and happiness may take place. We can't guarantee it, create it, or completely prevent it. It's up to us as individuals.

I recommend you read "Man's search for meaning" a great book. Which might change your mind about seeing yourself, and everyone else as a victim.
