...and even when there was no deficit, the yield on long term corporates has rarely been below 3%. For long term governments to yield below 1%, real rates would need to be negative or we would need to be in a seriously deflationary environment. When either of those situations have happened in the past, they haven't lasted very long.

And they probably never will disappear completely. But the level of debt could drop substantially. At that point, how does the Fed pursue its goals?
