Hi Carl,
A while back when 3dfx was actually a real company, I asked them why they had not chosen RDRAM for their high end graphics. Their answer was that the AGP bus was already maxed out and they had no use for the higher bandwidth. Their main issue was to process the graphics in the onboard memory as fast as possible.

I have no idea how the other factors you mentioned are weighted by nVidia.
