Gottfried, *OT*

I think Amex is smarter than that. They hooked accounts with the bait and later changed the rules. MotleyFool guys also disliked that fact. However, 10 free trades a month is nothing to laugh about. One other problem is the trades need to be market orders only for to be free commission. That takes away thin issues right away. But I am sure if made 10 trades a month that's a great deal!

**** Trading Small lots of Stocks **** AMAT or Others ***

It has happened that when some of my friends notice how profitable short term trading can be suggest that I show them the ropes and they have 50K plus to start.

My advise to them is to start with 5K. If you cannot trade $5000.00 profitably, you have no chance with $50,000.00

What can you buy for $5000.00 that is quality and has decent significant upside?

Lets try the following:

300 shares of Oracle
200 shares of CSCO
100 shares of NVLS
170 shares of INTC
200 shares of GLW
200 shares of VSH
100 shares of AMAT (comming soon to a trading desk near you)
200 shares of SUNW
300 shares of KLIC

Its always surprised me what can be done with a little effort. How do you measure success. Here is the yardstick I use. Take Oracle for example. I think that the June 17 1/2's are worth about 1.
So using any given number of shares from 300 to 5000 try to short term trade and net more than 1 point over the course of the next three weeks. You might do it in two trades or you might use five.

Others might wish to suggest other stocks that are staying in a well defines channel.

Tito probably has more good ideas. I did try to look up Duncan the makers of those great Yo- Yo's but to no avail.

Regards, Jerome
