Legislative gridlock that marked the Clinton years was the best thing for the stock market. Congress couldn't spend the money being collected from higher taxed enacted to pay off Reagan/Bush military spending deficits. With lower interest rates and low inflation as a result of paying down the deficit, the stock market was one of the major beneficiaries.

If government is divided ever so slightly with Democratic Senate, this would be another rallying point for stock market IMO. I see it is taking away another uncertainty of misdirected effects of budgetary action from Washington on the economy since increased Congressional gridlock will derail the majority of the legislative process like in the good old Clinton years.
